The Rio Grande Modeling & Historical Society is pleased to share several newly‑announced 2026 excursion opportunities featuring Galloping Goose No. 5. These trips offer rare chances to ride historic Rio Grande equipment across two legendary western railroads.
Durango & Silverton – September 2026 Excursions
Enjoy a 90‑mile round‑trip autumn ride from Durango to Silverton along the Animas River Gorge. Dates:

Cumbres & Toltec – Fall 2026 Excursions
Ride through the rugged mountains, trestles, tunnels, and fall colors of the Colorado–New Mexico border. Dates:
- October 2 & 9, 2026 – Chama → Antonito (bus return)
- October 3 & 10, 2026 – Bus to Antonito, Goose return to Chama
- October 4 & 11, 2026 – Chama ↔ Osier round‑trip Cost: $185–$210 per person (plus 7% preservation fee) Location: Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
Santa at the Galloping Goose – December 2026
A family‑friendly holiday celebration at the Galloping Goose Historical Museum in Dolores. Date: December 2026 (3–7 p.m.) Cost: Free Enjoy rides on the Goose, Christmas stories, caroling, cocoa, bonfire, and festive museum decorations.
