Grade & Alignment Charts
Denver & Rio Grande Western grade & alignment charts detailed the railroad's right of way in intricate detail. These charts are drawn to a scale of 2 inches = 1 mile. They typically list the following characteristics of the right-of-way:
-
- Trackage curvature & gradient
- Track schematic, sidings, spurs, tunnels
- Detectors, signals, slide fencing, rail lubricators, wheel checkers
- Rail weight & year
- Right-of-way width
Each set of charts usually included a legend as one of the first few pages. The legend page listed the symbols used to denote the above right-of-way characteristics. Included scans of the legend and the cover page in each set of Grade & Alignment Charts, if they are present.

Joint Track Operation Books
Denver & Rio Grande Western produced "Joint Track Operation" books for use in detailing trackage in joint territories. These books were used to assist with the reporting of the work done and the equipment used in such territory. The only book I have come across so far is for the American Gilsonite Company trackage at Gilsonite, near Mack, Colorado.
