Welcome To The RGM&HS 2023 Convention

Dear fellow Rio Grande enthusiasts and historians,

I am delighted to welcome you to the 2023 Rio Grande Modeling and Historical Society convention in Denver, Colorado. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with other historians, learn from experts, and explore the rich heritage of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. Whether you are a new or a seasoned fan, you will find something to inspire you at this event.

What to Expect

It’s an exciting time for society as we continue to rejuvenate, grow the society, while remaining adaptable to preserving and telling the rich history of the Rio Grande. We have planned two and a half days of sessions and activities for you, covering a wide range of topics and skills.

This year’s convention our first in-person event since 2019 we’ve assembled 10 clinic programs, for everyone to enjoy.  My hope is we’ll continue to meet and bring inspired people together in forums like this in the future, to ensure we foster community among everyone attending. You will be able to choose from over 11 presentations, featuring some of the most renowned speakers in the history of the D&RGW. You will also have access to the convention company store, where you can browse books, software, and other resources from our vendors and sponsors. And don't forget to visit with your peers, where you can meet introduce yourself to our board members, volunteers, and staff, and learn more about our projects and publications.

Enjoy Denver

While you are here, make sure to take some time to enjoy the beautiful and vibrant city of Denver. You can explore its history, culture, and nature, with railroad attractions such as Denver’s Union Station, the Colorado Railroad Museum, Georgetown Loop Railroad and the Forney Museum. You can also sample some of the local cuisine, craft beer, and coffee, and experience the nightlife and entertainment options. Denver is also a gateway to the Rocky Mountains, where you can find stunning scenery, wildlife, and outdoor activities.

I hope you have a wonderful and productive time at the 2023 RGM&HS convention. I look forward to meeting you and hearing about your research and discoveries. Thank you for being part of our community and for supporting our mission to preserve the rich historical heritage of the Rio Grande.

Again, this year’s we are using the Society’s Green Light’s “Convention Edition” as the program for the events we’ve planned.  In the following pages you see the schedule of events, along with other information the Society has organized over the next couple of days.  We are also sharing our preliminary plans for the 2020 RGM&HS conventions at the end of the convention.

Lastly, I want to extend my personal respect and thanks to all of you for participating, I would also like to recognize our entire RGM&HS convention team who spent many, many hours preparing this convention for us all.

Thanks,

Jeff Pierce
RGM&HS President
