Athearn D&RGW HO Scale 200-Ton Crane #028 and Boom Car
Athearn announced in September 2022 a run of its 200-ton Crane and boom car in HO scale as Rio Grande road No. 028 with the X-3338 boom car slated for a November 2023 release with an MSRP of $94.99. While the X-3338 boom car is not prototypical to the D&RGW, to Grand Junction when photographed in June 1975. Boom car X-3338 was formerly heavyweight diner Twin Peak, which was retired in 1963. The highly detailed ready-to-run model features D&RGW painted and printed matching the prototype, rotating boom, boom and blocks to raise and lower, boom flat car with boom support arms, machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, weighted for optimum performance, body-mounted McHenry® operating scale knuckle couplers.

Athearn Rio Grande HO 52’ Mill Gondola
Athearn announced a run of 52’ ft. mill gondola cars in HO scale in Rio Grande road numbers 340057 and 310815 and will have new tooling and additional details added to the model. The model is slated for an October 2023 release with an MSRP of $37.99.
The ready-to-run model is based on the prototype Rio Grande second-hand gons acquired in 1987 after the Rail Gon fleet was parceled out. The latest model release is part of Athearn’s primed for grime series and features “In Service” equipment with faded base colors matched to the prototype which is the perfect starting point for adding grime and rust. New feature refined end-sheet molded-on details, improved rivet and bolt details, corrected wire grab-iron placements, new top-chord details, new jack reinforcement pad details, and new coupler cut lever mounting details.
Other features on these models include separately applied wire grab irons, body-mounted McHenry® operating scale knuckle couplers, 33” solid nickel silver wheels with RP25 contours that operate on all popular brands of track, weighted for optimum performance.

Atlas Rio Grande O Scale GP-40
Atlas O plans to release an EMD GP-40 road switcher In D&RGW road numbers 3132 & 3136 to dealers in October 2023 with an MSRP of $569.95.
The Atlas Premier series scale model is based on a four-axle 3,000hp diesel locomotive EMD introduced in the 1960s.
